Almost
all visitors to Tanzania are required visas. The cost is US$
50 for a single entry visa, valid for up to 3 (three months)
from the date of issue. |
| Notice to American passport holders: With effect from September 20, 2007 the visa fee for the American citizens travelling to Tanzania shall be US$ 100. The new visa fee shall apply for single, double and multiple entries. The changes have effect to American passport holders only - and not for any other nationality. |
| Tanzanian embassies abroad recommend getting a visa before arriving in Tanzania, but most visitors**) can nowadays buy a visa in the airports and at any border post to Tanzania with very little hassle - only with US$ 50/100 in cash, a pen and some patience. |
| Note: Entry regulations are constantly changing; please contact the nearest Tanzanian embassy or representation for an update at least four weeks before travel. |
| Visa extension: An application for a visa extension can be obtained and filled in at the Immigration Office in Mwanza (located in Station Road - opposite Fortes Car Hire). There is no charge, and the extension will generally be issued the same day. No photos are required. |
| *) Note: Nationals of Lebanon, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Somalia and for Refugees, stateless people and other nationalities as may be specified from time to time by the authorities - need a special clearance or permission from the Director of Immigration Services in Dar es Salaam. People affected by this regulation may make enquiries at the nearest Tanzania mission abroad. |
